What rights do Americans have in Qatar, Dubai and India? Is it safe for Americans to live in these places?
My husband is from India and grew up in UAE where his Dad works in the oil industry. His parents are not aware that we are married nor that we have a child but have cut off my husband. He wants to up and move myself and our son to one of the two places and try to reconcile with his parents. His parents have a lot of wealth and I am scared that I will be imprisioned or my child will be taken from me. I have tried to raise these concerns to my husband. What rights would I have in Dubai, Qatar or India? Would I be safe as an American? What if I decide I want to leave and my husband doesn't want to? Would I be able to take my son without his permission? I am very concerned about this. He wants to move, without even knowing if we have a place to stay or a job....I am always up for an adventure but not if it means my safety or that of our son. I would love to go to places he grew up, and if his parents were on good terms with us I'd be SOOOO HAPPY to move closer to them. What should I do?

You do not want to go...you will have no rights to speak of in those countries...this would be a foolish move for any American woman to make.If you were my sister I would move heaven and Earth to keep you on American soil.Don't set yourself up,please.

do not even think for a second that as a FEMALE and same time an American that you have any rights. take your child and just get out. in those country's the law is always behind male. do not go, put aside of your adventure feelings and think of your future and your son. you said his family is not aware of your marriage, and they are not in good terms with him, just think for a minute what they will do, they can force their son to divorce you by just saying the word itself three times then you will be in the streets. remember as a FEMALE you do not have any rights what so ever. just get out

I'm an American citizen currently living in Qatar. Its completely free here, not like their neighboor Saudi Arabia, now that's where you don't wanna go! Life here is easy, almost everyone speaks good english; all stores, outlets, and reasturants do. Keep in mind, their main income (Besides oil and gas!) is tourism. They really try to appeal to westerners. Dubai is even better. Beautiful country, and very free and friendly. I have had many friends go to India and it too is friendly toward westerners. However it is very crowded. If you wory for your safety, then relax - it's completely fine. Of all people, trust me, after im writing this to you right now in Qatar haha. HOWEVER, I do warn you...Qatar and this region have some of the worst drivers in the world. Not dangerous, but plain stupid. So be preparred to do alot of heckling if you have anger management issues haha! But if not, it should be a blast. BTW, most westerners, including myself, feel more safe here than in the States.
