What is it like living in Doha, Qatar?
There is just a large possibility that I might move there. I'm 13 and I live in the USA now, and it wouldn't be soo strange moving because I have already lived in another country before, so I don't think adjusting will be tooo hard. I'd just like to know a few things. If you live/lived there or have ever gone to Doha or somewhere nearby. Is it possible to get on a girls soccer team there? Are the beaches nice to swim at, or are they too hot or something most of the time? If I lived there would I HAVE to learn Arabic or does everyone speak English fairly well (I really don't think I could learn Arabic, it seems like a very difficult language)? How is shopping there? I mean, could I go to good quality clothes stores that aren't majorly expensive designer things? Are the people there nice to Americans or is there any kind of prejudice going on? (no offense to anyone, I really know nothing and I wouldn't want to be caught off guard) My dad says they block 3 things on the internet there: pornography, things that offend Islam, and things that offend the Emir's family. Would an online school fall under any of these categories? (I go to one and would not want to quit it) Where are good vacation places that are not 15 hours away in the airplane? Hopefully someone can answer this I would appreciate it a lot! thanks!

I've only been there a couple of times, but from what I know, English is the business language in Qatar. While some people may speak a fair bit of English, it would be better to try and learn some Arabic as well. It's fairly difficult, but with time, you'll pick it up. Also, depending on where you have lived before, it's extremely hot there, hot and humid. It definitely takes some time to get used to. You should be able to attend an online class, but the internet is very restricted, so have a backup plan. Doha has some amazing beaches also. I mean absolutely beautiful. You can swim there no problem. Hope that helps

First of all QATAR IS NOT IN DUBAI !!! And you could go to an American school there everybody would speak english there and no online schools don't offend Islam unless it's pornography school or smthng No there isn't prejudice against Americans there BUT they don't like israel supporters so don't tell anyone tht u like Israel even if u actually do and tgere probably will be a girl's soccer team for ya skool but it depends frm skool to skool and there are a lot of vacation spots near Qatar like Dubai,Petra in Jordan,Lebanon and sharm al sheikh in Egypt all these places are fairly close

The country is trying to compete with Dubai yet there is nothing to do there except go to the one of the three or four malls they have recently built. Most people come here for the money - which is tax free. But let's not forget that Qatar is actually quite a nice place to work in, although you need a bit of money to enjoy it fully. Western expatriates can enjoy a superior life style, with domestic help in the home.
