How much wind can a concrete steel reinforced home withstand with ease?
Hey guys My brother has a tornado and thunderstorm phobia. We live in Qatar a country in the middle east. I think that the probability of a tornado occurring out here is really low. Anybody's opinion on tornadoes and the main question will be helpful. Thanks

You are correct. The probability of a tornado in Qatar is very low. But, it is not unheard of having one. Those that do occur are normally weak and short lived. There are several modern designs of concrete, reinforced homes that can withstand 150 mph (approximately 250km/hr winds. These would be a dome type that do not have flat walls on the outside and allow wind to flow around the structure. They can be finished inside in many different ways which would be adaptable to any lifestyle. I have seen several of these built in the tornado prone areas of the U.S. as well as in the hurricane threatened areas of the coast. There are also other similar designs that use more traditional building methods that also are wind resistant. The ultimate design for tornado resistant is one that is mostly underground.
