Is it hard for white europeans or americans to live in Qatar?

Expats in Qatar mostly live in compounds and not many mingle with the locals. Otherwise no problems at all for Europeans and Americans to live in Qatar.

Generally speaking I would say maybe. It all depeds on you and how wel you would be able to assimilate into their culture. Personally Im ethnically Iranian so its a little easier for me when I travel in the middle east but I still stick out because of my habits and accent which scream American. You will always be able to find people who are generally interested in Americans and are nice to Americans, but this is usually under pretenses that you already have some plan of meeting, such as travelling to Qatar for business, going to an area which you know people in or some instance in which you have a prearranged idea of who your meeting (family, friends, etc.) so that you have a general explanation of customs in the area. There are always people prone to disliking Americans across the globe, especially in the Middle East in the current situation so being aware of your surroundings is key. Have you travelled to Qatar yet? Have you been emerresed in the culture? Do you know any natives or friends their who can help you understand the culture? Whenever I travel to the middle east even countries like Iran which are supposedly harboring ill will towards western nations the people are generally friendly and understanding, as long as you are knowledgeable of their own nation and customs. Learn more about the country and culture of Qatar and especially the region which you intend to live in. Are the people there devout Muslims? If so dressing in a chador and giving men due respect according to Islamic law is a must. Just be smart and do research on the region, I assume you have particular interest in Qatar such as friend, family, school or business exchange program etc. in such case ask anyone you know from the region what it is like. The main point is youll be safe as long as you think smart and act appropriately just as you would be if you travel to any other foreign nation.
