What are some options for a 15 year old to live alone?
Hello, I'm 15 years old, I'm a boy, and I live in Doha, Qatar (it's int he Middle-East). I moved here about 8 months ago and I hate it here, my family moved here because they got offered jobs, and now there not looking into coming back to Seattle, Washington (where I used to live). So I was thinking about going to a boarding school in Seattle, but I definitely don't want to do that because 1. I don't want to wear a uniform all the time 2. I just need to get a high school diploma and nothing more, so I would like to go to a plain old public school. Does anyone know any other options I could propose to my parents so that I can move back to the United States without my parents? Like maybe a boarding school that's not strict on uniforms and education, haha? Any answers would be GREATLY appreciated, thanks so much.

I don't think any parent in their right mind would let a 15 year old go out on their own. I also think it's illegal. 100 years ago, YES, these days No. Also the part about not wanting to wear a uniform makes me think that you just want what you want. It doesn't work that way in life (especially at 15). Don't you have any relatives in the States that would let you live with them? I think that's your only way out of Doha.

if the only reason keeping you from going back to the states is you might have to wear a uniform, that's silly and immature. your not old enough to be on your own anywhere. do you have the money to pay for boarding school? do you have any relatives in the states you could live with? you only have 3 more years till your 18, then you can do whatever you want that you have the means for. you could check into getting emancipated, but you might need to be 16 to do that and have a job and a place to live. you might have to come back to an american court to get emancipated.

Talk with your parents and tell them how you feel. Ask if there is any possibility that you could live with a friend or relative. There are a couple of boarding schools in the area but they tend to be expensive. I'm not sure if they require wearing a uniform to school or not, but if you really want to get out of Qatar, it seems like wearing a uniform to school would be an insignificant issue since all of the other kids would be wearing a uniform at school, too. You can still wear what you want during your free time. Good luck!

Do you have family in Seattle? If so, contact them and ask them about it. They might let you live with them, and your parents wouldnt have to be concerned.

Firstly I went to boarding school, and it really isn't the case of "wearing you uniform" all the time - only in the day with the rest of the kids, and then after school you're pretty much free to wear what you want! Plus it can be pretty awesome, I used to sneak out in the middle of the night with my mates, it was a lot of fun :D But yes it can be quite costly, though it's definatley worth chatting to your parents about it. It's not illegal either, in my boarding school in the UK we had boarders from all over the world - Kenya, Germany, USA etc, I think they had an escort when travelling (this can be arranged when booking a flight and should be free). In regards to Doha - OMG I totally know why you hate living there!! I'm working in Doha at the moment - and my God how boring?!! There is nothing to do! You have to pay £40/$80 to go on the beach! But the Suk (the outside market) is pretty groovy. But yes I can imagine how terrible it must be! How a word with your parents about boarding school - at the end of the day if they say "no" then you have only 3 years until you're 18 and then you can do what you like, that isn't too bad. P.s - What's with the manic driving in Doha?!!
