It really depends on your personality. I would become educated in middle eastern culture before I would consider moving there. I am married to a middle eastern man for many years and have lived as one more than an American. There is a large difference. If you are accepted into ones home there is the utmost hospitality given to their guest. Always shake your host hand, you may be kissed on both cheeks and hugged, NEVER look around at your host home and comment on their belongings as this may be considered as "the evil eye". Also it is a great insult to cross your legs. On the good side you will make really good money, the shopping is excellent, there are many other single professionals there in abundance just like yourself, it is really clean, and it is and excellent adventure. I say go for it.

I had prepared a longer answer but had lost it. Here is what I wanted to say: 1. You need a work or family visa to stay here. 2. English language is the business lingua franca. Knowledge of it can help find a job. 3. There is loads of wealth. This also shows in the expensive SUVs on the road. Also driven by women. 4. Loads of shopping. There are many shopping centres here, and recently also an online store launched. I assume this is good news for women. 5. Employability depends on skills. No discrimination against women. 6. Most women wear hijab here. Women crop clothes are considered offensive. 7. Summer is very hot here. Better go on holidays. Rest of the year cool. ACs are every where. Not environmental-friendly.

It is definately NOT hard for women to work and live in Qatar. Qatar has one of the lowest crime rates in the WORLD. You'll be safe :) PLus most of the population are expatriates so you'll blend in easily. And as the others said; hot temperatures in summer, good shopping...salaries. The best part is that its sunny almost all year around. The desert is also a great place for socializing. You'll love the dunes and the quad bikes ;)

As a woman in Qatar, I would say no. If you have a husband, make sure you are not under his sponsorship if you are working. If you are not, stay under his sponsorship. If you have kids, find a job which pays all or part of school tuition, because tuition is expensive here. It is not hard at all for women to live here. They just have to make sure they dress appropriately. No short sleeves, baring stomachs, skirts or shorts above the knee, etc. If you are female, do not walk on streets. I have heard that many drivers may harass you. Qatar is overall a great place, very westernized, you do don't feel like you are in the middle east. Best of luck!
